Living a Life of Reiki

Learning Reiki can have a profound effect on your whole life; during your initial 21 days of self-healing, you may feel drawn to make some changes in your life, bringing balance not just to your body but to your environment, your relationships, career, finances… In fact to any area of your life and wellbeing.

Living a Life of Reiki

As Reiki practitioners, we are encouraged to live a life of Reiki. But what does this mean and what could it look like for you?

Living a Reiki life, may depend on where you are on your Reiki journey. If you are starting out and you have completed your Reiki 1 Training, you will probably be working on establishing a self-healing routine. You will understand the importance of keeping your energy clear and of being able to recognise the difference between your own energy and the energy of others. You will also be learning to perform treatments safely, gaining consent from your clients and practising what to say and how to say it in a way that puts your client at ease and explains what you are doing in a concise and accessible way.

Learning Reiki can have a profound effect on your whole life; during your initial 21 days of self-healing, you may feel drawn to make some changes in your life, bringing balance not just to your body but to your environment, your relationships, career, finances… In fact to any area of your life and wellbeing.

You will also be aware of the Reiki Principles - the blueprint for living a life of Reiki:

Just for today do not worry
Just for today, do not anger
Honour your parents, teachers and elders
Earn your living honestly
Show gratitude to every living things

Reminding yourself of these statements will bring you back to the Usui’s foundations of Reiki; what do these mean to you and how can you hold these principles at the centre of your day-to-day activities?

Reiki can also be used in other areas of your lives: your food, plants, pets etc. If you want to find out more, you can check out our earlier blog on this by clicking here.

As you move on to Reiki 2 Training, you are probably becoming more intuitive when using Reiki. You can start to use the symbols in your healing, and may want to include distant healing as part of your practice. The distant healing symbol can also be used to clear the past and the future so you can start to heal past trauma and emotions and help you to be the best version of yourself, moving forward. Trusting the process and knowing that Reiki is working for your highest good, will provide you with your best life. Remember, you need to continue to work on yourself and to put in the ground work, taking responsibility for your own healing and wellbeing.

Gaining experience of working with others is also an important part of your Reiki journey. Completing your case studies and reflecting on your practice will enhance your ability to practise on others and give you confidence to treat in the future. It is important to continue to self-heal as part of your own commitment to your wellbeing. Taking time and working on yourself shows dedication to your practice and sets a great example to others.

For many practitioners, Masters is the ultimate goal in their Reiki journey. Reiki Masters are living a true Reiki life, working on themselves and others and holding the Reiki principles at the centre of all that they do. There is also an option to share Reiki by becoming a teacher and passing on the knowledge.

Reiki can be about helping family and friends, or setting up a business. It may be a means of supporting others by volunteering, or working in a professional setting. Whatever you decide to do, remind yourself of the basics; don’t overcomplicate the process, but stay true to what Reiki means to you and why you practise.

Reiki is not a quick fix; although it has amazing healing qualities, recognize that you have to play a part in your own healing and wellbeing. Continue to welcome Reiki into your life and remember, the most important person you can heal is yourself.
