How Can You Reconnect With Your Reiki Practice?

Whatever our initial plans for Reiki, we can sometimes lose our way; we may put Reiki on hold for a while, not have time or the inclination to practise, or we just get out of the Reiki habit. So how do you get back to Reiki? This is a question we sometimes get asked, so here are some ideas you can try to re-ignite, or strengthen your Reiki.

How Can You Reconnect With Your Reiki Practice?

When you start learning Reiki, you can feel (amongst many other things) apprehensive, excited, purposeful, connected. You will have had your own reasons for choosing to start on your Reiki journey; maybe you had Reiki and feel ready to continue your healing journey through self-healing. You might be looking to help others - family or friends, or you may be a therapist and you’re looking to expand your practice? Maybe, you were just inquisitive and wanted to learn more. Everyone brings something different to Reiki and it is important to remember that this is your journey, with no prescribed route which you have to follow.

Your ‘why?’

Think back to why you wanted to learn Reiki. Has that ‘why’ changed? What would draw you to Reiki, if you were to start your journey now? What does Reiki mean to you? Make a list, or journal your thoughts and ideas to see why you want to recommit to Reiki.

Reflect

Look back at your Reiki diary, your reflection sheets or your logs. How did having a regular Reiki practice feel? What responses did you feel within yourself, when you self-healed? What did others say to you after a treatment? How can you regain those feelings?

Your Healing Space

Do you have a healing space for You? If yes, look at it with fresh eyes; are there any changes you can make? Do you need to move things, take items away or add anything? If you don’t have a sacred space, can you create one somewhere? What do you need? It can be a very simple, basic place where you feel comfortable. Don’t overthink this or use the lack of space to stop you starting.

The Basics

Do you feel confident to give Reiki to yourself and to others? Can you remember your hand positions? If you’re self-healing, you can place your hands wherever you feel your body needs healing. You can also go through the self-healing positions you learnt on your Reiki 1 training. How do you explain what Reiki is and what it does? How do you prepare to give Reiki to others? Don’t forget, you can go back and look through your Reiki manuals if you need to remind yourself of anything.

Preparing yourself

Are you ready to re-start your Reiki journey? Is there anything getting in the way? Can you set up a regular routine, maybe in the morning, or evening, for some self-healing? You might also include some meditation, breathwork, journaling, gratitude, stretching or exercise… whatever feels right for you, now.

Revisit the Reiki Ideals

Go back to the Reiki Ideals; sit with them. What do they mean to you?

Just for today, do not worry
Just for today, do not anger
Honour your parents, teachers and elders
Earn your loving honestly
Show gratitude to every living thing.

Reaching out

If you want to restart your practice with others, is there someone you can contact to set up a healing session or share Reiki? Maybe a friend, a member of your family, or someone you trained with? Reach out today, and set up a time. If you’re not ready to heal others, you could arrange to receive some Reiki, or meet up with someone from your training group to rebuild your connections.

Keeping it Simple

Reiki is all about balance, trust and letting go. Set your intention and then step out of the way and let the Reiki do what it needs to do. Reiki is simple; sit quietly, ask for the Reiki to flow and always give from a place of authenticity.

If the time is not right, don’t force it. Take your time and remember, you always have Reiki in your toolbox.
