Reiki & the Immunity System

We know that practising Reiki reduces stress, promotes relaxation and spiritual growth, heals and increases physical energy, enhances the immune function and much more. Reiki uses ‘life-force energy’ - the same energy that runs through each of us and all things on the planet, to bring our bodies into balance, to ensure the energy within us is high and free flowing, allowing us to stay healthy and to feel a great sense of wellbeing.

Reiki & the Immunity System

Our immune system’s main function is to help us avoid infections and diseases, and relies on a healthy supply of white blood cells. Stress is one of the major factors which can reduce or weaken or white blood cell count; the others are lack of exercise and poor nutrition. Whilst we can work on our levels of exercise and our food intake, it is more difficult to manage the stressors in our life.

Reiki helps the body relax, releasing stress and tension, and studies show that Reiki can also boost the strength of white blood cells and so helps our immune systems. Paying attention to the thymus gland found in the upper chest, between the heart and the throat when giving Reiki, can be very beneficial to your immunity function. You can also tap on this area to activate and boost the white blood cells.

The thymus gland can also be thought of as the seat of your spiritual development and, with an activated thymus, you can supercharge your spiritual growth.

We can also help to strengthen the flow of energy through the thymus by combining Reiki with our breath. Try this:

1. Activate your Reiki energy
2. Place one hand over your thymus and the other over your solar plexus
3. Bring your attention to your thymus area
4. As you breathe in, imagine your breath bringing in the light and filling up your thymus with bright healthy energy, expanding this area and sending out strong blood cells around your body. As you breathe out imagine any stress and negative thoughts disappearing, leaving your body healthy and strong. You can also imagine the Reiki Power, or Master, symbol sinking into your body through your thymus, if you have these symbols.
5. Continue to take deep breaths, filling up your lungs and your thymus area and sending strong, positive Reiki energy throughout your body, out through your skin and into the protective energy surrounding your body.
6. Continue to breathe in this way for as long as you feel you need to. Try to get a sense of that protective energy surrounding you.
7. You can then continue with your self-healing or thank the Reiki and switch off.

Don’t forget you can also put yourself, and your loved ones in a protective bubble, if you feel you need some extra protection, or wrap yourself in a protective cloak - be creative with the colours and the materials that you choose - what do you feel drawn to using? Maybe a cloak of feathers or mirrors to deflect any harm.

Other ways of protecting your immunity include:

  • Keeping to a reasonable schedule and sleeping well

  • Moving enough - walking, yoga, swimming and stretching are great forms of exercise in the winter

  • Eating well - particularly eating seasonal, and warming, foods in the winter - soups and stews

  • Drinking plenty of water - warm water and/or herbal tea is great at this time of year

  • Expressing your emotions, either verbally or through journaling

  • Regular reiki sessions to provide a fully rounded healing process

Whatever you decide to do, try to incorporate some of these ideas into your daily routine and remember to find some time for you, and your loved ones.
