Using a Pendulum in your Reiki Practice
Have you ever tried using a pendulum alongside Reiki? In our recent in-person Reiki share we explored how this simple tool can add another dimension to our practice.
In a recent Home of Reiki Share, we experimented with using pendulums. We all recognise that we do not need to use anything in our Reiki practice; we just use the hand positions we have been taught, set the intention and let the Reiki flow. But, occasionally, it’s good to try some different techniques, particularly when we are working with other practitioners! Some of us have additional interests - maybe crystals, oracle cards or mediumship, and we can bring that knowledge to our treatments.
Using pendulums can be an interesting addition to Reiki as we discovered. Pendulums respond to yes/no questions, and will swing one way for yes, and a different way for no, often circling for one response and swinging back and forth for the opposite. If you haven’t used your pendulum before, or for a while, you will need to programme it. Holding the pendulum by the end of the chain, relax and ask it a simple question, e.g. is my name (your name). Note which way the pendulum swings. This is your ‘yes’. You might like to hold one hand under the pendulum as you work with it. Steady the pendulum by holding it with your other hand and then ask it a second question e.g. is my name (not your name) and again see which way it moves. You could ask a different question, with an obvious yes/no answer.
The pendulum uses energy to move, and with all energy work, don’t over work it. Ask your question and try not to then ‘check’ by asking again, e.g. is my name Fred? (no). Is my Bert? (no). You may not always like the answer that is revealed, but just accept it, and move on.
Using a pendulum in your healing practice
You can ask your pendulum for insight to help you in your healing practice. Try asking simple questions, e.g. ‘does this person need healing/Reiki?’, or ‘is this person open to receiving Reiki?’ Remember, you can only ask yes/no questions, so you can’t ask ‘where does this person need healing?’ but you could try ‘show me where this person needs healing’ and move your pendulum over your client’s body to see how it moves. You could also ask ‘does this area need healing?’ as you move the pendulum above the body. This is similar to scanning the client with your hand and tuning into your intuition.
Another way to bring your pendulum into your practice is to use it to detect the energy of the chakras. We know that we work with the chakras during our healing and we can first ask for some feedback to inform our practice. We can start with asking ‘does this chakra need healing/Reiki?’ ‘Is the chakra open or blocked?’ You can then clear any excess or stagnant energy, or treat as usual.
The movement of the pendulum can detect the state of the chakra; if it swings erratically this may suggest an emotional imbalance which needs addressing. If your pendulum makes wide circles over the chakra, this can indicate an abundance of energy; small circles - low energy. The chakras should be balanced and this is what Reiki can bring. You can also experiment with using your pendulum along with your experience and intuition.
Using a pendulum, together with your intuition, can add a layer to your healing practice, and we had some great results during our Reiki share. We didn’t need to incorporate pendulums into our practice but it was good to try something new and to think about, and then review what we do.
If you’d like to further your practice, try some new ideas and share Reiki with like-minded practitioners, why not get in touch and come along to the next Reiki share? We’d love to see you!
